This is a meaningful post for me to write because Indie Lee has been one of my dream brands to work with for a long time. Their attention to detail from their clean, innovative ingredients to their gorgeous packaging is what made me fall in love at first. I grew even more respect for the brand once I read about Indie’s story and how she came to start this amazing line of skincare. For those who don’t know – Indie started this brand after successfully overcoming a brain tumor. When she was diagnosed, Indie had been eating super healthy and so naturally she asked her doctor – how could this happen? And he said – well what do you put on your skin? That story really resonated with me because I work at a cancer therapeutics company and though Indie’s brain tumor wasn’t cancer, I know that any diagnosis like this is devastating for both the patient and their loved ones. Any chance we have to reduce risk is something that I believe we should be aware of and prioritize!
Our skin is the first line of defense in our immune system, and accordingly, it also sees everything we put on it. After reading Indie’s story, I was really inspired and motivated to clean up my beauty routine, and I have turned to Indie Lee’s products and web resources to do that. My first product that I tried was their Squalane Facial Oil. That oil changed my life and started my love for Indie Lee products. I was so honored when they sent me some more products from their range to try – it was really a personal and blogging highlight. Indie Lee kindly sent me some of their best-selling products – their Brightening Cleanser, CoQ-10 Toner, and I-Waken Eye Serum. I knew I would love everything, and I did. I’ve been using all these products for about 2 weeks now so keep reading for my thoughts on them!
Key Ingredients: strawberry seed oil, hydrolyzed wheat protein, tomato extract
When it comes to skincare, I usually don’t pay too much attention to cleansers. I do a 2 step -cleanse, first with an oil-based cleanser followed by a water based cleanser. While I do love my oil cleanse (Indie Lee – please make an oil based cleanser!), I don’t really focus a lot on water based cleansers and will just use whatever is inexpensive yet good quality. However, I had heard a lot of people raving about the Indie Lee brightening cleanser so I was really excited to try it. First of all, can we talk about Indie’s gorgeous packaging? The bottles are all frosted glass with a seafoam green stripe and clean lettering. It’s so photogenic! But what’s important is the product inside and this cleanser is so luxurious. It smells like fresh strawberries and creates a milky lather on the skin that just slips and slides so nicely and feels very nourishing. I used to rush through my water-based cleanse but not anymore! I like to massage this on my face for 30-45 seconds before rinsing off. My face doesn’t feel the least bit squeaky or tight afterwards.
Key ingredients: hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, coq-10 (an antioxidant), sage
Next up, the CoQ-10 toner. I had tried a sample of this in my Follain starter kit and loved it, but the sample was small so I quickly used it up. I couldn’t wait to get my full size of it. I love toner – I think it’s such an important step in skincare because it gets rid of every last bit of the day off your skin and preps your skin for the rest of your skincare. I’ve tried a lot of toners and this CoQ-10 toner is one of my absolute favorites. I love how soft it feels on the skin (some toners can feel really astringent and stripping). It also smells so luxe – clean and floral and herbal in the best way. I soak a cotton round with the toner and swipe over my face. I don’t know about you, but I get a lot of satisfaction seeing residual makeup, etc on my cotton pad and using this toner definitely doesn’t disappoint! Again, my skin feels hydrated after using the CoQ-10 toner and the whole experience of applying it is so lovely.
Key ingredients: 100% pure olive-derived squalane oil (that’s it!)
I had purchased the Indie Lee Squalane Oil that started it all. I have a brief review of it on my HelloAva beauty review post, but I will also collect my thoughts here. Since moving to DC, and especially in the winter, my skin has been feeling tight and dry no matter how much moisturizer or serum I put on. Squalane oil is particularly good for skin that is acne prone because of how light it is, but make no mistake – it is super effective. I actually have tried out another squalane-based oil but the Indie Lee one is my favorite because it is pure oil, isn’t fragranced, and feels incredibly soothing and comfortable on my skin. I use it after my serum and before my moisturizers or sleeping masks at night. In the morning, I will mix a few drops of the oil into my Sunday Riley Tidal cream and put it all over my face. I will never be without this oil. It’s changed my life!
Key ingredients: witch hazel, chamomile, spirulina
Finally, I had the pleasure of testing out Indie Lee’s I-waken Eye Serum. The skin around the eyes is so delicate so it’s important to treat it accordingly. Before discovering this eye serum, I did love putting a lightweight gel moisturizer around my eye area in the mornings for that boost of moisture and cooling effect. This serum does that job perfectly, and I love how it has chamomile in it for that extra soothing effect. I can’t wait to put this to use on my redeye flight this weekend! I know it’ll make me look super rested even though I’m not.
Apart from Indie Lee’s products, her website is a treasure trove of information on the clean ingredients she uses in her products and which ingredients to avoid in your beauty routine. I look to it constantly to make judgements on which products to purchase. My philosophy on clean beauty isn’t to throw all your non-clean products away. Rather, I prefer to be more conscious about the beauty products I am introducing into my routine, and to focus on choosing clean beauty for the items that touch my skin directly and are on my skin for the longest duration of time. This is primarily my skincare and body moisturizer (since it covers such a large surface area and stays on all day). Excitingly, Indie Lee has a clean body moisturizer that I am eager to try!
Indie Lee is a leader in the clean beauty space for a reason. Never has a single brand captured my heart so thoroughly, and I look forward to adding lots more of her products to my routine in the months to come! x
