I’m always chilly, so cardigans are my saving grace when it comes to wardrobe staples. I’ve been inspired by so many outfits that feature a duster-length cardigan, so when I saw this LOFT one that came in the most gorgeous dove-grey, almost blush color, I had to have it. It’s seriously the best item I’ve purchased for my closet this year, and I’ve already worn it in so many ways. Because of its length, it’s incredibly versatile and looks chic with dresses, leggings, jeans, anything! Here are two ways that I’ve loved wearing my duster cardigan recently.
Having spent my formative years in Georgia and Tennessee, I haven’t have had to deal with cold winters much. A wool-blend pea coat and earmuffs was about all I needed to keep warm. When we moved to Washington DC in January, I blissfully thought that it would be the same too. Oh how wrong I was. It was so cold (like high of 20s), for so long (until April at least), and it just did not occur to me to get a warmer coat. I would hate going out for dinner or errands because I didn’t want to deal with the cold. This year I took matters into my own hands. I call this blog post “get a coat that covers your bum and your thighs so you feel empowered to go out into 30 degree weather.” While you’re at it, get boots that have thermal insulation and socks that actually make your feet toasty instead of clammy. If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know that I’m completely head over heels in love with leopard this fall! I just love the visual interest that the pattern adds to an outfit, and I believe that LOFT has outdone themselves with the best leopard prints this season. As soon as I saw this leopard skirt I knew I had to have it both for work and for play! There is something so feminine and elevated about this leopard jacquard fabric, and I love that the silhouette of the skirt is tailored but not too tight or short. Here, I’ve styled it up for work with a cream blouse and my staple black Caryn cardigan from J.Crew.
While I can’t say my handbag collection is tiny, I did feel like I was missing a crucial bag for the longest time – the chic black handbag. I would style outfits and wish that I had a black bag to throw on my arm and so I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect one. Y’all, it’s hard to find quality handbags that don’t cost a fortune. Of course I was lusting after a designer one, like the Givenchy Antigona bag, but I couldn’t spend THAT much on a bag, so I was on the hunt for something under $100. I found the perfect bag from Sole Society! It has a similar barrel shape like the Givenchy one, and is made of vegan leather. It’s excellent quality, and looks and feels a lot more expensive than its price tag of $65.
As the bright colors of summer darken into the rich tones of fall, I’m reminded all over again why this is my favorite season. Something about the dramatic shift in textures and the signature candle scents gives me all the cozy feels. As I lit my favorite Chestnut and Clove candle, I started to think about fall style, and couldn’t stop with all the sweaters, thermals, and yummy fabrics that are hitting the stores right now. This outfit combines all my favorite fall things: a pure white chenille sweater that’s slightly oversized so it hangs off the shoulders, a fitted miniskirt in the prettiest ginger color, taupe booties, and layered gold necklaces. They all come together to create one of my favorite fall looks ever! Best part is, there are so many variations of this outfit – go with a suede skirt instead of corduroy, or a fitted turtleneck instead of the white sweater. And when the weather gets colder, swap the booties for some over the knee boots!
I love classic looks and one of my favorite pairings is a white blouse with a great pair of denim. I have been on the lookout for a white blouse that wasn’t peasant style, and was really excited to find this beauty. It’s a swiss dot white fabric with ruffles along the v-neckline and down the front. I love how airy the blouse is, but the ruffles keep it from being too sheer in the front. Of course, my immediate thought was to style it with my favorite ripped denim and nude heels and bag. It’s a simple yet elevated look – the details in the blouse and jeans add visual interest (my favorite), and of course the heels make it dressier. I’d wear this look out to date night, and then pair the blouse with some dark denim or black pants for work!
I find the summer so distracting in terms of wardrobe because many of the items I’m drawn to, I can’t wear to work. For those precious warm evenings and weekends, this outfit is one of my favorites. It’s so good for when I don’t feel like wearing shorts, and is pretty, light and feminine.
I never really thought I could pull off a moto-style jacket and to be honest, when I ordered this one, I still wasn’t sure. However, as soon as I pulled it out of the package, I was sold. First of all, the color was the most perfect shade of blush pink I had ever laid my eyes on. Not too pink, not too dusty, just incredibly refined and beautiful. Secondly, the craftsmanship of this jacket is amazing. It’s fully lined in cream-colored silky material, all the zippers work smoothly, and the hardware is a shiny silver that looks elevated (definitely not cheap.) I got a size 4. This jacket is classic yet feminine, and I styled it here with a white blouse, ripped denim, and Kate Spade shoes and bag.
