How to style a leopard skirt

Style

If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know that I’m completely head over heels in love with leopard this fall! I just love the visual interest that the pattern adds to an outfit, and I believe that LOFT has outdone themselves with the best leopard prints this season. As soon as I saw this leopard skirt I knew I had to have it both for work and for play! There is something so feminine and elevated about this leopard jacquard fabric, and I love that the silhouette of the skirt is tailored but not too tight or short. Here, I’ve styled it up for work with a cream blouse and my staple black Caryn cardigan from J.Crew.

Sole Society Zypa Barrel Satchel Review

Style

While I can’t say my handbag collection is tiny, I did feel like I was missing a crucial bag for the longest time – the chic black handbag. I would style outfits and wish that I had a black bag to throw on my arm and so I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect one. Y’all, it’s hard to find quality handbags that don’t cost a fortune. Of course I was lusting after a designer one, like the Givenchy Antigona bag, but I couldn’t spend THAT much on a bag, so I was on the hunt for something under $100. I found the perfect bag from Sole Society! It has a similar barrel shape like the Givenchy one, and is made of vegan leather. It’s excellent quality, and looks and feels a lot more expensive than its price tag of $65.

How to style a corduroy miniskirt

Style

As the bright colors of summer darken into the rich tones of fall, I’m reminded all over again why this is my favorite season. Something about the dramatic shift in textures and the signature candle scents gives me all the cozy feels. As I lit my favorite Chestnut and Clove candle, I started to think about fall style, and couldn’t stop with all the sweaters, thermals, and yummy fabrics that are hitting the stores right now. This outfit combines all my favorite fall things: a pure white chenille sweater that’s slightly oversized so it hangs off the shoulders, a fitted miniskirt in the prettiest ginger color, taupe booties, and layered gold necklaces. They all come together to create one of my favorite fall looks ever! Best part is, there are so many variations of this outfit – go with a suede skirt instead of corduroy, or a fitted turtleneck instead of the white sweater. And when the weather gets colder, swap the booties for some over the knee boots!

The best ruffled white blouse

Style

I love classic looks and one of my favorite pairings is a white blouse with a great pair of denim. I have been on the lookout for a white blouse that wasn’t peasant style, and was really excited to find this beauty. It’s a swiss dot white fabric with ruffles along the v-neckline and down the front. I love how airy the blouse is, but the ruffles keep it from being too sheer in the front. Of course, my immediate thought was to style it with my favorite ripped denim and nude heels and bag. It’s a simple yet elevated look – the details in the blouse and jeans add visual interest (my favorite), and of course the heels make it dressier. I’d wear this look out to date night, and then pair the blouse with some dark denim or black pants for work!

Clinique Moisture Surge vs. Garnier Moisture Rescue

Beauty

The Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hour Hydrator is a moisturizer that I started using 10 years ago. Back then it was just called Moisture Surge, and I remember my mom getting it for me once or twice a year and I loved it. It was the only moisturizer that didn’t break me out and felt comfortable on my skin. When I got to grad school, I was looking for a less expensive alternative, and came across this similar gel crème from Garnier called Moisture Rescue (for Dry Skin). I was struck by the similarity of both the product and the name, and I used it for a few years as my main moisturizer before I branched out into Korean skincare. Recently I’ve been seeing the Clinique Moisture Surge all over, and I thought it would be interesting to compare these two products head-to-head. Keep reading to see how the Garnier Moisture Rescue for Dry Skin (at around 8 dollars at the drugstore) compares to the cult-favorite Clinique Moisture Surge!

Beauty Edit – June 2018

Beauty

I’ve been really into makeup recently, and loving all the products I picked up in the Sephora sale a few months back. I love glow-y makeup all year round, but especially in the warmer months. The new foundation I’m using (It cosmetics cc cream) is literally the best foundation I’ve ever used, and I’m loving different blush and highlighter combinations to top it off. I’ve also been keeping my eye makeup in place with my new favorite eyeshadow primer from Milani. Keep reading for details on the new makeup items I’ve been using every day and am obsessed with!

The Perfect Blush Faux-suede Jacket

Style

I never really thought I could pull off a moto-style jacket and to be honest, when I ordered this one, I still wasn’t sure. However, as soon as I pulled it out of the package, I was sold. First of all, the color was the most perfect shade of blush pink I had ever laid my eyes on. Not too pink, not too dusty, just incredibly refined and beautiful. Secondly, the craftsmanship of this jacket is amazing. It’s fully lined in cream-colored silky material, all the zippers work smoothly, and the hardware is a shiny silver that looks elevated (definitely not cheap.) I got a size 4. This jacket is classic yet feminine, and I styled it here with a white blouse, ripped denim, and Kate Spade shoes and bag.

A Korean-based Skincare Routine

Beauty

I’ve been on the Korean skincare path going on two years now, and it has improved the clarity and brightness of my skin in a very impressive way. Along with the products themselves, I think that the concepts of double cleansing, and properly moisturizing have helped balance out my skin. My skin has also shifted recently towards more dry, rather than oily, and so I’ve really focused on hydration in the products that I’ve incorporated into my routine. Korean skincare is all about naturally active ingredients, and I think I’ve honed on the ones that work for me. For a basic overview of Korean skincare concepts, this article from Soko Glam is a great resource. I don’t do all the steps of Korean skincare consistently (like sheet masking, really need to be better about that) but I do most of them. Another thing to keep in mind is that the products themselves don’t have to necessarily be Korean or Asian – it’s the methodology that matters! Keep reading for my current routine!

Neutral Workwear Look

Style

I love a neutral look for work, and one that incorporates layers and ruffles is even better. I find LOFT blouses to really stand the test of time – I’ve had one particular pleated blouse for years and I wore it to pretty much every conference, presentation, and interview and I still love it. Looking for another staple to add to my wardrobe, I was excited to find this ruffled, fluted sleeve blouse in their spring collection. The front and sleeves are their signature woven material that doesn’t crease, and the back is a jersey fabric. I topped it with this gorgeous faux-suede jacket from blankNYC that I talked about in a previous post. I paired the blouse and jacket with the most comfortable black jeans ever from Old Navy. They aren’t traditional denim type material – rather they are a very soft, almost twill-like material with tons of stretch. I basically feel like I’m wearing leggings in them.
